Before: Grey 6" tiles, no backsplash except for a 6" tile. It was wobbly and every plate or dish that was put on the counter would rattle when anyone walked through the kitchen. I needed to use a big board to roll anything out and the grout just grossed me out, no matter how much I scrubbed it.
During: Look! No sink. The absolute worst part of this was not having a sink. I could have dealt with the no counters if only I had a sink.
After! No, they don't match. The back counters are different from the island. FG and I have never really been known to make things look like a "model home". We liked the contrast. It pulls out the black veins in the back granite slabs. It's soooo smooth and pretty and I told FG that I may not even need him anymore, I'll just rub the counters ;)
Closer version of the back counters and my new "under" sink. LOVE that! I never knew I could love something like that but oh mama, I do! My crazy orchid behind the sink is about to bloom too. We have two stalks with an insane amount of flowers on them. I am no orchid master but dang, this one blooms like mad and has for YEARS. I just keep it in it's little happy place back there and it keeps going. I was worried it would get sad when we had to move it for the construction but it simply held on to it's stalks and let them get longer and longer, waiting to go back to it's home so it could bloom there. Oh yeah, notice the backsplash? It goes all the way from counter to cabinet and makes the cabinets look really far away from the counters now. LOVE that!
I'll have to share recipes later or tomorrow. FG and I are headed to Costco. He gets cranky when he's out of Red Bull.
